Bio

Sam Fowler is in his third year as Assistant Athletic Director for Communications at Texas A&M University-Victoria, joining the department in February 2023.

Fowler oversees the strategic direction of the Jaguar Athletics brand, leading the department’s media relations, digital platforms, broadcast operations, game day environment, and content strategy while guiding how the achievements of A&M-Victoria’s student-athletes and programs are communicated to external audiences.

Under Fowler’s leadership, Jaguar Athletics has expanded its digital reach and audience engagement across multiple platforms. The department launched three sport-specific social media accounts to enhance program promotion and migrated its live broadcast operations to YouTube before the 2024-25 academic year to expand accessibility and viewership. Since February 2023, Jaguar Athletics has seen 126.5% growth in Net Audience Growth, 570.8% growth in engagement, and 272.1% growth in video views across its digital and streaming platforms.

During the 2025-26 academic year, Fowler was responsible for bringing the first-ever Name, Image and Likeness partnership with Influxer to the university, allowing student-athletes to profit off their NIL while giving the department an additional recruiting tool.

Following the 2023–24 academic year, Fowler was named the Red River Athletic Conference Sports Information Director of the Year. His work has also earned multiple national awards in the NAIA Sports Information Directors Association Publications & Media Contest, including first- and second-place finishes in Feature Writing during the 2024–25 contest cycle.

Before joining A&M-Victoria, Fowler spent six years in sports journalism, most recently as Assistant Sports Editor at the Victoria Advocate. He previously served as Sports Editor at San Angelo Live! and the Pleasanton Express, earning 17 journalism awards including second place in the Texas Managing Editor's Star Sportswriter of the Year contest in 2023, and the South Texas Press Association’s Willis Webb Journalist and Photographer of the Year honor in 2021.

A former student-athlete at Angelo State University, Fowler earned All–Lone Star Conference honors as a punter in 2013 and 2014 and received all-region and All-America recognition in 2014 while helping the Rams win the Lone Star Conference Playoff Championship.

Fowler previously served on the NAIA-SIDA Publications & Media Contest Committee and was later elected chair of the NAIA Branding Committee. He and his wife, Karly, live in Victoria with their son, Wyatt, and two dogs, Bonnie and Clyde.
