Smith’s late homer powers No. 20 A&M-Victoria to first-ever series win over LCU
The Texas A&M University-Victoria baseball team had to dig deep on Saturday.
After seeing a six-run lead wiped away, one big swing by Garrett Smith lifted the No. 20-ranked Jaguars to a 12-8 win over Louisiana Christian on Saturday at Riverside Stadium. The win also clinched the first-ever series win over the Wildcats for A&M-Victoria.
Smith delivered a go-ahead, two-run home run in the eighth inning to break an 8-8 deadlock and spark a two-out, four-run rally for A&M-Victoria (13-8, 4-2 RRAC).
Smith finished the game 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs as the Jaguars peppered 10 hits and had a pair of multi-hit performances.

In addition to Smith, Roberto Olguin had a three-RBI day after going 3-for-4 at the plate. Beck Zimmerman had a team-leading three RBIs.
