Caylor named NAIA All-American
On Wednesday, the NAIA announced its men's golf All-American team and UHV's Carson Caylor was a third team selection.
Caylor, a senior from Urbandale, Iowa, becomes the second-ever UHV men's golfer to earn All-American honors, joining Max Schliesing who earned a third team nod last season. In all sports, Caylor becomes the 22nd All-American or Honorable Mention produced by UHV.
"It's pretty amazing to receive an award of this magnitude at the national level," Caylor said. "I'm honored because it brings attention to UHV and the golf program. Hopefully it helps spring us to more success in the future."
Caylor's senior season saw him win his first collegiate tournament at UHV's Claud Jacobs Invitational after finishing 6-under (68-72-70—210) at the Victoria Country Club in February. He had a scoring average of 74.07 in 27 rounds played.
The Iowa Western Community College transfer turned in five Top 10 finishes, including three Top 5s in 10 tournaments this season.
Of his 27 rounds this season, Caylor finished par or better in 11 of them. He turned in a career-best round of 5-under (67) in the final round of the Dallas Baptist Classic at Wildhorse Golf Club in Denton.
Caylor also earned Red River Athletic Conference Golfer of the Week honors twice this season.
"Carson stepped up to be a leader for us on the golf course this year," said head coach Garrett Adair. "Whenever we needed a low round, Carson was right there. There was a reason he was a Top 50 golfer most of the season. He deserves this honor."
Caylor helped the Jaguars win a third consecutive conference championship and earn a third straight trip to the NAIA National Tournament.
