No. 17 Jags increase lead thanks to record 2nd round by Biais
The No. 17-ranked UHV men's golf team enters the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament final round on Wednesday at Victoria Country Club on the verge of a four-peat.
On Tuesday, the Jaguars shot a team score of 284 – one stroke off the program's second round record set in 2022 – to take an 18-shot lead over Our Lady of the Lake thanks to a five-under 67 by freshman Nathan Biais.
Biais' second round is a program record for lowest second round score in a conference tournament. The Chassors, France, native carded seven birdies in the second round against just two bogeys.
After bogeying each the fifth and sixth holes, Biais closed the final 12 holes at four-under and holds a six shot advantage over OLLU's Oliver Gaisford going into Wednesday.
Biais will look to become UHV's fourth consecutive individual conference champion with Ben Lake (2021), Jaxon Langford (2022) and Will Paton (2023).
For the second day in a row, the Jaguars had four players in the Top 10.
Paul Chopin, who also shot 67 in the opening round, shot 78 on Tuesday to sit T-4.
Enzo Dakiche was the lone other Jaguar under par on Tuesday with a two-under 70. After a bogey on hole 10, the sophomore closed his final 11 holes at three-under to move 13 spots up to T-9.
He shares ninth place with teammate Hayden Hardwick, who turned in a second consecutive round of 74 on Tuesday. The freshman from Portland, Texas, picked up three birdies to keep his spot inside the Top 10.
Joshua Van Der Wath improved three places on the leaderboard to 12th after a 73 in the second round. The Johannesburg, South Africa, native also had a trio of birdies to go along with 11 pars on Tuesday.
The final round gets under way at 8 a.m. on Wednesday.
