A&M-Victoria’s Chopin takes home first RRAC Golfer of the Week honors
WACO – Texas A&M University-Victoria men's golfer Paul Chopin is riding high following a performance in which he challenged multiple program records last week.
The Portiers, France, native shot a 12-under 204 (67-72-65) to finish in a tie for 11th place and set the Jaguars up for a seventh-place finish at the Poss High Country Shootout held at The Links at Sierra Blanca in Ruidoso, New Mexico. His 12-under tied the lowest tournament to-par score tied the program record and the final-round 65 is tied for the lowest individual round at A&M-Victoria.
On Tuesday, the Red River Athletic Conference announced Chopin as its first Men's Golfer of the Week winner. It's the first Golfer of the Week recognition for the senior.
"I've been working really hard to improve my game," Chopin said. "I am so grateful for the opportunity to represent my school with this accomplishment."
Chopin shared 11th place in the field of 94 golfers with teammate Brandon Gratton (71-67-66—204) as the duo helped pace the Jaguars to a program record 22-under par score (283-280-279—842) for the tournament.
Combined, Chopin and Gratton had 36 of A&M-Victoria's 66 birdies last week. Of the 15 total rounds played by Jaguars golfers last week, seven finished under par.
"I'm really proud of our guys' effort since we started the fall," said first-year head coach Alex Acosta. "Paul and Brandon have done a great job with their maturity and experience to get us started and guiding our younger guys. This tournament was a testament on what we are building towards. We are slowly putting the pieces together. This recognition is great for Paul and the men's program, but we have to continue to get better and push forward collectively."
The Jaguars head to University of the Southwest's Battling in the Desert Oct. 6-7 in what will be a preview of the 2026 RRAC Tournament at Rockwind Community Links.
