Men’s golf finishes 5th in New Mexico
HOBBS, New Mexico – The Texas A&M University-Victoria men's golf team wrapped up play at University of the Southwest's Battling in the Desert on Tuesday.
The Jaguars finished fifth in the 15-team field at Rockwind Community Links in what served as a preview for the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament this spring. Six of the conference's seven men's golf teams participated in the event.
A&M-Victoria turned in scores of 297-296-294—887, finishing eight strokes behind third-place Southwest and just five shots off Texas A&M-Texarkana in fourth place.
Paul Chopin was the low Jaguar for the tournament, going 71-75-74—220 to finish T-17. His one-under par opening round was one of two rounds under par for A&M-Victoria.
Lucky Boonsrirat, the reigning RRAC Men's Golfer of the Week, turned in a Top 20 finish at T-20 after going 74-74-72—221. The senior from New Braunfels cared seven birdies across 54 holes.
Brandon Gratton was the other A&M-Victoria golfer to get into red numbers this week, going 79-71-74—224 to finish T-30. His one-under second round was highlighted by a tidy scorecard which featured just one bogey.
Florian Simon (73-77-76—226, T-37) and Charlie Ward (81-75-74—230, T-47) rounded out the scores for the Jaguars this week.
The men round out their fall schedule Oct. 27-28 at the Louisiana Christian Wildcat Invitational in Alexandria.
