Trio of Top 10 finishes pace Men’s Golf to 3rd place at Claud Jacobs
The Texas A&M University-Victoria men's golf team used a pair of Top 10 finishes to close strong at the Claud Jacobs Collegiate Invitational presented by Edward Jones-French Wealth Management and Discover Victoria.
Brandon Gratton and Florian Simon finished in a tie for sixth place among the field of 74 golfers at the Victoria Country Club, helping the Jaguars finish third as a team with scores of 288-289-301—881 against a field of 13 teams at Victoria Country Club on a windy Tuesday afternoon.
The Jaguars (17-over par) led the five Red River Athletic Conference schools, holding a 25-shot advantage over the next closest in Texas A&M-Texarkana.
Gratton shot a final-round 75 (+3) and Simon posted a 76 on a day that only saw four golfers shoot under par due to the strong winds on the course.
Simon (69-73-76—218) finished tied for second among the field of 74 golfers in birdies with 10 after carding three in the final round.
Gratton (73-70-75—218) and Lucky Boonsrirat finished third and second, respectively, in pars with 37 and 38.
Competing as an individual, Boonsrirat finished T-9 thanks to a final-round score of 73 to go 76-70-73—219). The New Braunfels native had three birdies and 12 pars to move up two spots on the leaderboard.
