UHV softball volunteers at VGSA camp
Members of the University of Houston-Victoria softball team recently volunteer their expertise at the Victoria Girls Softball Association softball camp at the Victoria Youth Sports Complex.
The project is part of the Jaguars' Champion of Character initiative that the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) embraces, as well as the National Girls and Women in Sports Day.
The Champions of Character program embraces the five core values of respect, integrity, responsibility, servant leadership and sportsmanship.
The UHV softball team has been very involved with the Champions of Character program and has had two members of the team earn the Red River Athletic Conference Betty Etier Character of the Year Award.
The team is also involved in the Victoria ISD mentoring program at the local elementary schools, Habitat for Humanity, helping raise funds for cancer research and, volunteered with Samaritan's Purse to help in the Victoria recovery efforts following Hurricane Harvey.
