Softball Sweeps USW
The UHV Jaguars remain unbeaten in Conference play, following a doubleheader sweep of the University of the Southwest.
The Jags run ruled USW in both games played in cold and windy conditions at the Victoria Youth Sports Complex on Friday afternoon.
Lauren Caka (SR/Yoakum, TX) and Kaylle Lopez (SO/Sinton, TX) each drove in 3 runs to pace the Jags in the 11-3 game one victory called after six innings. Cameron Cowan (SO/Shiner, TX) (SO/Victoria, TX) pitched 4 innings to earn her sixth win of the year. Alexi Wade (FR/Granger, TX) came on in relief to close out the game.
The Jags scored two in the first to take an early lead but USW tied it up with two in the top of the third before the Jags added one in the bottom of the inning to take the lead for good. A five run fourth inning put the game out of reach before adding two in the fifth before Caka drove in the walk off run in the sixth.
Claire Blinka (SO/Port Lavaca, TX) wielded the big stick for UHV in the second game of the afternoon. Blinka doubled and tripled and drove in five runs leading the Jags to a 10-2 victory. The five RBI game is the most by a Jags hitter this season.
Cameron Steen (SO/Victoria, TX) went the distance to collect her fifth victory of the season.
Softball resumes RRAC play tomorrow afternoon at the Victoria Youth Sports Complex when they host Texas A&M San Antonio in a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m.
