Softball Splits at HTU
UHV Softball split their conference doubleheader on Friday afternoon in Austin, losing game one in 10 innings before hammering the Rams 9-1 in game 2. The split puts the Jags RRAC mark at 10-2, and tops in the West Division, two games up on Our Lady of the Lake and Texas A & M San Antonio.
Alexi Wade (FR/Granger, TX) gave up just three hits and two runs in pitching a complete game. Alexis Gonzalez (SR/Rockport, TX) scored the first run of the game in the top of the 10th inning but the Rams added two in the home half to get the walk off victory.
Game two was not as close. The Jags won in convincing fashion, 9-1. Gonzalez, Claire Blinka (SO/Port Lavaca, TX) and Michaela Fernandez (JR/Pearsall, TX) each drove in a pair of runs to pace the Jags. Cameron Steen (SO/Victoria, TX) went the distance, striking out three while scattering five hits to earn the win, her seventh of the season.
The Jags have a busy week ahead, at Our Lady of the Lake tomorrow before hosting Texas A&M-Texarkana on Friday at 1:00 p.m. and LSU-Alexandria at Noon on Saturday.
