HOOKS, TX – The UHV softball team dropped both ends of its Sunday doubleheader at (RV) Texas A&M-Texarkana.
The Jaguars fell 9-5 in Game 1 and 9-1 in five innings in Game 2 at Hooks High School.
Claire Blinka opened the scoring for the Jaguars with a two-run home run in the fifth inning of Game 1, sparking a run of four unanswered runs between the fifth and sixth to pull within 6-4 with Allison Snedeker delivering an RBI single later in the fifth and Jasmine Canales scoring on a passed ball in the sixth.
Deeandra Maldonado capped the scoring with an RBI double in the seventh.
With hits in each game Sunday, Blinka is now on a five-game hitting streak and has hit safely in 34 of the Jaguars' 36 games this season. Her fifth-inning blast was her third home run this week and seventh this season.
Jasmine Canales provided one of two hits for UHV (19-17, 11-7) in Game 2. Jayce Bolin, who pinch ran for Maldonado, scored on a double steal attempt following Canales' second-inning single to tie the game at the time.
Audrie Sayas and Keira Reis suffered the losing decisions in the circle for UHV.
The Jaguars go on the road next Friday to face Huston-Tillotson in a Red River Athletic Conference doubleheader.
