Softball selected to 10th NAIA Tournament
For the 10th time in program history, UHV softball has been selected to the NAIA Tournament.
The Jaguars (29-21) earned an at-large bid out of the Red River Athletic Conference and will be the No. 4-seed at the Oklahoma City Bracket of the Opening Round at Oklahoma City University's Ann Lacy Stadium May 12-15. They open the tournament vs. No. 5-seeded Morningside (Iowa) at 1 p.m. on Monday, May 12, with the winner going on to face Oklahoma City at 7 p.m. the same day.
This is the second consecutive season in which the Jaguars will compete for a national championship and second straight year they've gone to Oklahoma City.
The other teams making up the bracket are No. 1-seeded Oklahoma City, No. 2 Missouri Baptist and No. 3 William Carey. The Jaguars faced Missouri Baptist once earlier this season and faced Oklahoma City in last year's opening round. UHV last faced William Carey in 2021 during the Opening Round as the Jaguars advanced to the NAIA Softball World Series. UHV faced Morningside once before in 2016.
UHV is one of four teams from the RRAC to earn a bid to this year's national tournament, joining Our Lady of the Lake, LSU Alexandria and Texas A&M-Texarkana.
The Jaguars will look to build on strong offensive showings down the final stretch of the regular season.
Senior Claire Blinka is hitting .433 with 13 home runs, a mark which is tied for the lead in the RRAC. Kenzie Chambers is second in the RRAC with 42 stolen bases.
Junior second baseman Daizie Fuentez was named to the All-RRAC Tournament team after hitting .364 with four RBIs over the four games at the tournament.
