The Texas A&M University-Victoria softball team is ready to kick off its campaign for a third straight NAIA Tournament berth.
The Jaguars' journey begins this Saturday as they host former Red River Athletic Conference foe Huston-Tillotson in a 1 p.m. doubleheader at the Victoria Youth Sports Complex.
A&M-Victoria has had a winning record in each of its first 18 seasons after going 29-23 last year and reaching the Oklahoma City Bracket of the NAIA Opening Round.
"I'm thrilled for the opportunity to step on the field as A&M-Victoria for the first time this Saturday," said head coach Lindsey Ortiz. "There is so much energy and excitement surrounding this program right now, and our athletes can't wait to put their hard work on display for our community."
The Jaguars own a 42-6 record in the all-time series with Huston-Tillotson after sweeping last year's season series. But it will be the first time the teams have met as non-conference foes since 2015 when A&M-Victoria joined the RRAC after the Rams (7-27 in 2025) joined the HBCU Athletic Conference this year.
A&M-Victoria's offense is led by returners Alyssa Carter (All-RRAC Second Team), Fayth Hoover (All-RRAC Honorable Mention) and Daizie Fuentez (RRAC All-Tournament).
Carter was a .347 hitter with 18 RBIs and 25 runs scored a year ago. The junior outfielder went 6-for-12 in four games against Huston-Tillotson last year.
Hoover hit .318 last season with 16 RBIs and 20 runs in her first season with the Jaguars.
Fuentez closed the 2025 campaign hitting .325 with 10 RBIs over the final 16 games to earn her RRAC All-Tournament team nod.
Jocelyne Galvan and Keira Reis return for the A&M-Victoria pitching staff.
Galvan posted a 7-4 record and a 3.00 ERA over 65.1 innings of work and 18 games last season. Reis made 14 appearances for the Jaguars in her freshman year.
Haley Noska, Zoe Hardy and Kailea Freeman are new faces to the staff for Ortiz. Freeman was an NFCA All-Region selection while at Tidehaven High School.
