PINEVILLE, La. – The Texas A&M University-Victoria softball team showcased its resilience to bounce back and pick up a split on the opening day of the LSU Alexandria Tournament.
The Jaguars fell, 14-0 (5 inn.), to (RV) William Carey in Game 1 before responding with a 6-3 win over Mid-America Nazarene in Game 2.
Multiple RBIs from Cristela Trevino and Daizie Fuentez had multi-RBI performances in Game 2 to help A&M-Victoria improve to 5-1 on the young season.
Game 2 vs. Mid-America Nazarene
A&M-Victoria jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning thanks to an RBI single from Angelina Morales. Daizie Fuentez followed that later in the inning with a two-run double to left field.
The game remained quiet until the fifth inning when Mid-American Nazarene picked up its first run of the game.
Then, a two-run RBI from Trevino in the bottom of the fifth followed by a sacrifice fly by Taylor Allen made it 6-1 and put the Jaguars well out of reach.
Fuentez, Morales Trevino, Khamryn Werdlow, Alyssa Carter and Emily Mayo posted the Jaguars' six hits in the win.
Zoe Hardy earned the win in a complete-game effort, striking out five batters while giving up just three runs on seven hits in seven innings of work.
Game 1 vs. (RV) William Carey
The Jaguars kept the Crusaders at bay most of the game, but struggled to generate offense.
A&M-Victoria fell behind 3-0 in the first inning and then 4-0 after the fourth.
The Jaguars' only base runners came from walks by Werdlow, Morales, Trevino and Kitty Coe.
Haley Noska was the pitcher of record for A&M-Victoria in the loss.

The Jaguars open up Day 2 of the tournament against Central Baptist College at 12:30 p.m. They'll wrap up the tournament against No. 13 LSU Alexandria at 2:30 p.m.
