Carr’s clutch hitting lands RRAC Softball Player of the Week honors
WACO – Texas A&M University-Victoria softball's Madison Carr showcased her clutch hitting at the plate last week.
The junior from Texas City delivered a pair of walk-off hits in Friday's Red River Athletic Conference doubleheader to help A&M-Victoria clinch a series win over rival Texas A&M-San Antonio.
Her heroics on Friday sparked a .455 week at the plate and landed Carr RRAC Softball Player of the Week honors on Monday. She's the second Jaguar honored in the weekly awards, joining Zoe Hardy who was named Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 9. She's the first to win Player of the Week this season.
Carr has been one of the best A&M-Victoria players at the plate this season, hitting .424 with a .697 slugging percentage and a .486 on-base percentage. She has hit safely in each of the last five games with a .533 average over that span.
That's helped the Jaguars climb up to 13th nationally in team batting average at .369. A&M-Victoria ranks 14th nationally in runs scored with 113 to start the season.
A&M-Victoria is currently 12-3 overall and 5-1 in RRAC play. The Jaguars travel to Gulf Shores, Alabama, this week for five games at the Gulf Coast Invitational, starting with a 9 a.m. game Friday against Williams Baptist.
