GULF SHORES, Ala. – A strong Game 2 helped the Texas A&M University-Victoria softball team get back in the win column at the Gulf Coast Invitational.
The Jaguars used a big sixth inning to down Faulkner (AL), 6-2, and bounce back from a hard-fought, 3-2 loss in extra innings to Williams Baptist at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex on Friday.
Kitty Coe led the way for the Jaguars with four hits across the two games.
With the win, A&M-Victoria improves to 13-4 on the year.
Game 2 vs. Faulkner (AL)
A&M-Victoria opened the scoring in the second inning thanks to an RBI single by reigning Red River Athletic Conference Player of the Week Madison Carr.
With the game tied at 1-1 in the third, Deeandra Maldonado broke the deadlock with an RBI single to score Angelina Morales.
Then, the Jaguars broke the game open in the sixth with a four-run frame started by Carr coming home on an error. Cristela Trevino followed with an RBI single to score Khamryn Werdlow before Kitty Coe's two-run triple put the game out of reach for good.
Coe finished the game 2-for-2 with a pair of RBIs and two walks to her name. She, Morales and Carter had multi-hit performances in the win as the Jaguars scattered 13 hits.
Sophomore Zoe Hardy improved to 6-1 in the circle after another complete-game effort. The Walla Walla, Washington, native surrendered just one earned run on eight hits while striking out five batters. She also did not allow a walk.
Game 1 vs. Williams Baptist
Alyssa Carter led the way offensively with both of A&M-Victoria's RBIs, including an RBI single in the seventh to force extra innings in the 3-2 loss.
Carter had a sacrifice fly to plate Khamryn Werdlow and open the game's scoring in the bottom of the first. She then scored Fayth Hoover in the seventh after Hoover led off the inning with a triple.
The Sugar Land native was 1-for-3 at the plate as the Jaguars got hits from six different players. Kitty Coe was the lone A&M-Victoria player with a multi-hit performance, going 2-for-4.
Jocelyne Galvan suffered the loss despite allowing only an unearned run in her two innings out of the bullpen. The junior struck out a pair while only surrendering one walk.

A&M-Victoria opens Day 2 of the Gulf Coast Invitational with a 9 a.m. game against Tennessee Southern. They'll conclude their Saturday slate at 1:30 against Freed-Hardeman.
