SAN ANTONIO — The Texas A&M University-Victoria softball team struggled to generate offense Friday in a doubleheader at No. 9-ranked Our Lady of the Lake, dropping the opener 14–1 and the second game 6–0.
The Jaguars collected five total hits on the day as OLLU's early scoring surges proved difficult to overcome.
A&M-Victoria moved to 14–10 overall and 5–4 in Red River Athletic Conference play.
Game 1
A&M–Victoria fell behind early in the opener and the last conference game of the series as Our Lady of the Lake produced multiple run-scoring hits in each of the first three innings. The Jaguars' pitching staff — Haley Noska, Zoe Hardy and Keira Reis — combined for four innings of work with Noska suffering the loss.
The Jaguars' highlight came in the fifth inning when Emily Mayo delivered a solo home run to left field, breaking up the shutout and accounting for the Jaguars' lone run. Alyssa Carter added the team's only other hit, a double in the fourth.
Defensively, the Jaguars faced persistent pressure as OLLU continued to string together extra-base hits, including homers in the second and third innings. UHV finished with no errors, but the Saints capitalized on consistent contact to pull away.
Game 2
In the second game, A&M–Victoria kept the scoring tighter early before OLLU broke the game open in the middle innings. Madelyn Butler started in the circle for the Jaguars, allowing four runs in 3.2 innings before giving way to Jocelyne Galvan and Kailea Freeman in relief.
Offensively, A&M-Victoria put runners on base in several innings but could not convert. Madison Carr led the Jaguars with two hits, including a seventh-inning double, while Khamryn Werdlow recorded the team's other hit with a first-inning single and stolen base.
Despite limiting OLLU to one early run — scored on a wild pitch — the Jaguars saw the deficit widen after a fourth-inning solo homer and two more run-producing hits. A fifth-inning two-run double added to the margin, and A&M–Victoria was unable to answer over the final three innings.
Next up
The Jaguars return home next week to face Xavier (La.) in conference play Friday and Saturday, which will also be Senior Day to honor Kelsey Perez, Sianna Miller, Daizie Fuentez and Fayth Hoover.
