Nguyen has career showing as Jags finish fifth in opening tournament
WESTWORTH VILLAGE, TX – Evelyn Nguyen turned in a career-best round for UHV in the opening tournament of the season.
The junior from Pearland carded a 75 in the second round of the Texas Intercollegiate at the par 72 Hawks Creek Golf Club, and finished with a 240 (83-75-82) for a T-14th finish. It helped the Jaguars to a team score of 977 (328-320-329) and a fifth place finish.
Nguyen shared 14th with teammate Emmily Bickelmann, a junior transfer from Coastal Georgia. Bickelmann, a native of Weisbaden, Germany, shot an 81-77-82 in her first tournament with UHV.
Cecelia Niemietz shot a 252 (82-81-89) for a T-38th finish. Mia Lerma was one stroke behind Niemietz with a 253 (82-87-84).
Caitlyn Niemietz rounded out the Jaguars' lineup with a 258 (89-88-81).
UHV will compete in the Waco River Classic on Sept. 18-19.
