Bickelmann earns RRAC Golfer of the Week after Schreiner win
WACO – UHV's Emmily Bickelmann had one of the best weeks of her career.
Last week, the junior from Weisbaden, Germany, picked up her first career tournament win at the Schreiner Shoot-Out following rounds of 77-76—153.
On Tuesday, the Red River Athletic Conference named Bickelmann its Women's Golfer of the Week for March 4-10. It's the second consecutive week a Jaguar has won the honor after Mia Lerma earned the honor last week.
"It means a lot to be named Golfer of the Week, especially after Mia won it last week," Bickelmann said. "We're in a good position to hopefully win conference in May."
Bickelmann had 15 pars, five birdies and an eagle between the two rounds, helping her overcome a five-stroke deficit to edge out Emma Luna of St. Thomas (TX) at The Club at Comanche Trace in Kerrville.
Going back to the final round of the Claud Jacobs Invitational, Bickelmann has shot three consecutive rounds in the 70s.
Bickelmann, in her first season since transferring to UHV from Coastal Georgia, helped the Jaguars (327-318—645) finish third as a team in the Texas Hill Country, three strokes better than RRAC foe Our Lady of the Lake.
"I'm so proud of Emmily," said head coach Garrett Adair. "She's worked extremely hard all season and it's paying off for her. She's playing her best golf at the right time. Our whole team is. We want to keep that momentum going and build on it as we get closer to the conference tournament."
The Jaguars travel to the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex March 18-19 for the University of Texas at Dallas' Texas Cup held at Thorntree Golf Club in DeSoto.
