Bickelmann in Top 10, Jags 5th after Texas Cup Opening Round

DESOTO – UHV's Emmily Bickelmann continued her strong run of form on Monday in the opening round of the Texas Cup hosted by NCAA Division III University of Texas at Dallas.

The junior turned in a six-over 78 at the 5,731-yard, Par 72 Thorntree Country Club helping the Jaguars sit in fifth after a team score of 334. They trail fourth-place University of Dallas by one stroke heading into Tuesday's final round.

The Weisbaden, Germany, native had 11 holes of par or better for her fifth consecutive round in the 70s, including two weeks ago when she won the Schreiner Shoot-Out.

Cecelia Niemietz sits inside the Top 20 at T-17 after shooting an 83 in the opening round. Her sister, Caitlyn Niemietz, is T-25 after an 85 on Monday. Caitlyn led the team with two birdies on her card.

Mia Lerma shot 88 on Monday and is T-33 while Kaitlin Lopez shot 90 to open the tournament and is 36th.

The tournament concludes at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
