A&M-Victoria's Pate and Simon sweep RRAC Golfers of the Week
WACO – Florian Simon and Madeline Pate highlighted a strong week for the Texas A&M University-Victoria men's and women's golf teams last week.
The pair turned in Top 10 finishes as Simon helped the men to a third-place finish and Pate's T-5 finish led the A&M-Victoria women's individuals at the annual Claud Jacobs Collegiate Invitational at Victoria Country Club Monday and Tuesday.
Simon went 69-73-76—218 (+2) to finish T-6, his best finish in his freshman year, while Pate went 82-80—162 (+18) to earn her fourth-career Top 10 finish and her third Top 5 finish. After those performances, the duo swept the Red River Athletic Conference Men's and Women's Golfer of the Week honors, announced on Monday.
This is the second time this season A&M-Victoria has swept the RRAC Golfers of the Week awards. It's the second time the women have won the award. Simon joins Brandon Gratton and Paul Chopin as Jaguars to win the men's award this season.
Simon led the team with 11 birdies and one eagle over the three rounds at VCC last week. The Bordeaux, France, native finished tied for second among the field of 74 golfers in birdies.
Pate was able to put together a pair of consistent rounds, carding four birdies over the two rounds and closing with a bogey-free stretch in the tournament's final three holes on Tuesday.
A&M-Victoria's next tournament is March 16-17 at the A&M-Texarkana Eagle Invite at the Texarkana Country Club.
