The Texas A&M University-Victoria closed non-conference play strong on Thursday.
The Jaguars (3-1-2) routed Huston-Tillotson University, 6-0, at The Cage to extend their unbeaten run to five games. The six goals were a season-high performance for A&M-Victoria.
Ayloni Garcia and Serenity Petaia led the way with two goals each. Garcia opened the scoring in the 18th minute before capping the offensive onslaught in the 80th with her fifth goal of the year.
The McAllen native also provided assists on goals by Kaitlyn McCarty, in the 23rd minute, and Vanessa Bevalian, in the 25th.
Petaia picked up her first goal as a Jaguar in the 51st minute on an assist from goalkeeper Abree Fry before adding her second in the 62nd minute with a left-footed shot.
In total, A&M-Victoria out-shot the Rams 22-8 on Thursday, including a 13-4 advantage in shots on goal. Both marks for shots and shots on goal are the season-high for the Jaguars.
McCarty had three shots while Bevalian and Briana Ortega had two each. Garcia (5) and Petaia (4) led the Jaguars in shots.
Fry, making her first collegiate start since 2022, earned the shutout and the win in goal. The Lancaster, California, native made four saves, including three in the second half, to preserve the clean sheet and earn her first win with the Jaguars.
The Jaguars now begin a two-week road trip to open Red River Athletic Conference play beginning Thursday, Sept. 25, at LSU Shreveport.
