PINEVILLE, La. – A pair of second-half goals lifted the Texas A&M University-Victoria women's soccer team to its first conference win of the season.
The Jaguars defeated Louisiana Christian, 2-1, at Wildcat Field thanks to a goal in the 88th minute by Vanessa Bevalian, her third goal of the year and second one to tie or win a game. Jessica Salkeld provided the assist.
This is the third time A&M-Victoria (4-2-2, 1-1) has scored a game-tying or winning goal later than the 80th minute.
Ayloni Garcia provided the equalizer in the 64th minute with a free kick goal, her team-leading sixth goal of the season.
The Jaguars peppered the Wildcats' back line with 17 shots while the defense did stellar to hold Louisiana Christian to just two shots – all of which came in the first half.
Garcia led the way with four shots and two on goal. Kaitlyn McCarty had three shots and two on goal. Eleven different players had shots for A&M-Victoria.
Jamie Noriega earned her third win of the season in goal for the Jaguars.
A&M-Victoria continues its road trip next week at Jarvis Christian on Thursday and Texas A&M-Texarkana on Saturday.
