The Texas A&M University-Victoria women's soccer team turned in its most heroic defensive performance yet on Thursday.
The Jaguars battled to a 0-0 draw with Xavier (La.) at The Cage in Victoria. It was the first time A&M-Victoria (7-2-4, 4-1-2) picked up a result (win or draw) against the Gold Nuggets in four meetings all-time.
With the draw, the Jaguars held steady at fourth place in the Red River Athletic Conference standings, one point clear of Texas A&M-Texarkana and Our Lady of the Lake in fifth (13 pts.)
A&M-Victoria weathered Xavier's potent offense, which averaged 4.6 goals per game entering Thursday's contest.
Despite the Gold Nuggets' barrage of 26 shots on Thursday, the lone six which found the frame were saved by junior goalkeeper Jamie Noriega who earned her third shutout of the season. It was the fifth shutout of the season by the Jaguars.
A&M-Victoria had its fair share of chances to break the deadlock seven shots and two on goal.
Siobhan Scott led the way with five shots and one on goal.
Three of A&M-Victoria's seven shots came in the final five minutes of the game, two of which came off Scott's foot and one of those two forcing XULA's Luisa Bella into a save.
The Jaguars are back at home on Saturday to square off with second-place LSU Alexandria for the team's annual Pink Out Game. Limited Breast Cancer Awareness-themed giveaway items from DeTar Healthcare System will be available to fans in attendance.
