ABILENE, Texas – The Texas A&M University-Victoria men's soccer team earned its first win of the season on Sunday.
The Jaguars beat NCAA Division III opponent McMurry University, 1-0, at Wilford Moore Stadium thanks to a penalty kick goal by senior Baillie O'Reilly in the 69th minute.
It was the fourth goal for O'Reilly at A&M-Victoria (1-2).
The Jaguars put plenty of pressure on the Warhawks (1-3), especially in the first half with five shots. A&M-Victoria totaled seven shots in the win with O'Reilly leading the way with four.
A&M-Victoria's goalkeepers Tyler Kaeppeli and Eric Thust combined for the Jaguars' first shutout since Sept. 28. Kaeppeli made two saves in the first half, moving him two saves from breaking Brian Redmond's (2014-16) record of 140. Thust came on in the second half and made three saves to keep McMurry at bay.
With the win, A&M-Victoria moves to 5-0 all-time against McMurry. Sunday's win was also the first time since Oct. 7, 2023, that the Jaguars won by a 1-0 scoreline.
The Jaguars return home next week to face Texas Wesleyan, on Thursday, and Dallas Christian College, on Saturday.
