PINEVILLE, La. – The usual suspects were at it again to give the Texas A&M University-Victoria men's soccer team its first Red River Athletic Conference win of the season.
Goals by Baillie O'Reilly and Jervan Matthew stood as the difference in the Jaguars' 2-1 win over Louisiana Christian at Wildcat Field. It's just the second win in program history against the Wildcats and first road win since the teams became conference opponents in 2021.
O'Reilly opened the scoring in the 13th minute by finishing off a through ball from Jack Dibble. Matthew tallied his team-leading fifth goal of the year and eventual game-winner in the 50th minute on a cross from Chris Mendez. It was the El Paso native's first career assist.
A&M-Victoria (5-4, 1-1) had to hold onto the lead after Aran Vivar pulled a goal back for the Wildcats (2-4, 0-2) in the 53rd minute to make it 2-1.
But senior goalkeeper Tyler Kaeppeli stood tall, making all four of his saves in the second half to preserve the win for the Jaguars.
O'Reilly had a team-leading five shots with four on goal. Matthew had three total shots. The Jaguars posted 12 shots on Saturday and forced Louisiana Christian's goalkeepers into six saves.
A&M-Victoria continues its road trip next week at Jarvis Christian on Thursday and Texas A&M-Texarkana on Saturday.
