The Texas A&M University-Victoria men's soccer team continued its strong offensive performance on Saturday.
The Jaguars beat University of the Southwest, 4-1, at The Cage to help the Jaguars (7-5-1, 3-2-1) move into a tie for fourth place with Texas A&M-Texarkana in the Red River Athletic Conference standings.
The conference tournament format sees six teams qualify for the tournament with the top two teams getting a bye to the semifinals and the third- and fourth-place teams hosting quarterfinal matches.
Jervan Matthew continued to set the pace for A&M-Victoria's attack with another two goals on Saturday to move to eight on the season.
The Cochrane, Dominica, native opened the scoring in the 22nd minute before breaking a 1-1 deadlock in the 51st. Baillie O'Reilly provided an assist on each goal and Daniel Menyoli also earned credit for an assist on the second.
O'Reilly picked up his fifth goal of the season in the 85th minute to put the Jaguars up 3-1. Yahir Pena converted A&M-Victoria's fourth penalty of the year to cap the scoring with 10 seconds left in the match.
The Jaguars limited Southwest to just two shots on Saturday while posting 19. Senior goalkeeper Tyler Kaeppeli earned his seventh win of the season.
A&M-Victoria is home once again next week to face Xavier (La.) and LSU Alexandria on Thursday and Saturday. Xavier is third in the conference and LSUA is second.
