A goal in the final five minutes stole at least a draw from the Texas A&M University-Victoria men's soccer team on Thursday.
The Jaguars fell, 1-0, to No. 21-ranked Xavier (La.) at The Cage after Guilherme Domingues converted a free kick in the 85th minute for the game's lone goal.
The goal came against the run of play as A&M-Victoria (7-6-1, 3-3-1) as the Jaguars had two of the match's best opportunities to open the scoring in the 54th and 84th minutes.
Jervan Matthew's right-footed shot looked destined for the bottom corner in the 54th before Breno Zanolla got down to his right to make his first save of the game.
Kei Matsuyama then had a header in the 84th that unfortunately went right into Zanolla's hands.
Baillie O'Reilly led the way for the Jaguars with three shots. Matthew and Matsuyama had the lone shots on goal for A&M-Victoria.
Despite the loss, senior goalkeeper Eric Thust, making his first start of the season, made four saves on the five shots he faced.
The Jaguars are back at home on Saturday to square off with second-place LSU Alexandria for the team's annual Pink Out Game. Limited Breast Cancer Awareness-themed giveaway items from DeTar Healthcare System will be available to fans in attendance.
