KERRVILLE – The UHV softball team made the most of its trip to the Texas Hill Country on Wednesday.
The Jaguars racked up 31 hits to sweep their non-conference doubleheader with NCAA Division III Schreiner University, 5-1 and 17-8, at Mountaineer Softball Field.
UHV (4-0) scattered 23 hits in Game 2, three off the program's single-game record set in 2011 against Our Lady of the Lake. The Jaguars also hit three home runs, one away from tying the single-game record for most in game set in 2011 against LSU Alexandria.
It's the second time in the last three years UHV has won its first four games.
Allison Snedeker delivered two of the biggest blows in the second game, the first a three-run home run to cap off a five-run first inning before an encore two-run home run in the fifth broke a 5-5 tie.
Snedeker finished the game 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and five RBIs to go with her two home runs.
Jayce Bolin put the finishing touches on UHV's home run barrage with a three-run home run during an eight-run seventh inning which put the Jaguars up 17-7 at the time. It was the Krum, Texas, native's first career home run with the Jaguars.
UHV never trailed in the doubleheader with the Mountaineers (0-4), but had to break ties of 5-5 and 7-7 in Game 2 to seal the sweep.
Kaylle Lopez continued her red-hot start to the season, going 6-for-10 with six RBIs in the doubleheader – including going 4-for-5 with four RBIs in Game 2. The senior from Sinton extended her hit streak to four games after Wednesday and is currently batting .714 with a team-leading eight RBIs.
Lopez, Snedeker, Madysin Leighton, Kenzie Chambers, Claire Blinka and Alana Ortega each had multi-hit games for UHV in Game 2.
Blinka and Chambers each had an RBI in addition to Lopez's two in Game 1.
Leighton had four stolen bases between the two games and Chambers had two.
Cameron Cowan improved to 3-0 in the circle this year after going five strong innings, allowing one run on two hits with five strikeouts in Game 1. Anyssia Mendoza came on to pitch two scoreless innings of relief, allowing only two hits.
Alexi Wade earned her first win of the season after pitching 1.1 innings of relief in Game 2. The Granger, Texas, native allowed one earned run on one hit after coming on in place of Eryn Sanchez.
Hope Quinones saw her first action of the season, pitching the seventh inning of Game 2 and allowing an unearned run on two hits.
UHV is scheduled to host St. Thomas (TX) in the team's home opener on Friday at 1 p.m. at the Victoria Youth Sports Complex.
