The cardiac cats struck again on Saturday at The Cage.
The Texas A&M University-Victoria women's soccer team used a late equalizer from Vanessa Bevalian in the 85th minute to earn a hard-fought 1-1 draw with NCAA Division III side Concordia University Texas.
The draw moved the Jaguars' unbeaten run to four straight matches as A&M-Victoria's record to 2-1-2 on the year. It's the second time this season A&M-Victoria has scored an equalizer in the 85th minute or later.
"It was awesome," said head coach Kimberly Uetrecht. "I think we did it with a lot of composure. People were trying to get up and had a sense of urgency that we asked them to have. So, I'm really proud of them."
It was the first goal of the year for Bevalian with junior Belle Artley picking up the assist.
The goal for the Mesa, Arizona, native came as the Jaguars applied more pressure on the Concordia (0-3-2) back line with five shots in the second half. A&M-Victoria out-shot the Tornados 11-9 in the match.
The Jaguars fell behind in the 13th minute after Maddie Oberholtzer found the back of the net for Concordia.
Juniors Ayloni Garcia and Serenity Petaia led the way offensively with six combined shots. Petaia had a team-leading three shots on goal in her second start of the season.
"At halftime, we really challenged them to be vocal and to step up," Uetrecht said. "We have players on the team who do a really good job (of that) and we just asked for more people to lead themselves. That's what we saw in the second half. I'm really, really proud they were able to pull out the tie."
Next, the Jaguars host former Red River Athletic Conference foe Huston-Tillotson at 1 p.m. on Thursday.
