Women’s Golf traveling to Laredo to open spring at Jack Brown Memorial Invite
The UHV women's golf team is looking to carry momentum into the spring season when it travels to Texas A&M-International's Jack Brown Memorial Invite at the Laredo Country Club on Monday, Feb. 5.
The Jaguars finished second their last time out after shooting 347-333—680 at the UHV Fall Classic in October, six strokes behind Red River Athletic Conference rival Our Lady of the Lake.
UHV currently holds a stroke average of 331.3 through four tournaments.
"We saw a lot of good things in our last tournament that we hope to build on," said head coach Garrett Adair. "The Jack Brown will be a great chance for our girls to challenge themselves to start our spring schedule. I'm excited to see what we can do."
The Jaguars earned their second-place finish in the UHV Fall Classic on the heels of third-place showings from senior Mia Lerma (85-80—165) and Emmily Bickelmann (87-78—165).
Bickelmann's 75 in the opening round of the Waco River Classic is the lowest round on the team for the season. The junior from Weisbaden, Germany, leads the team in stroke average at 80 through eight rounds.
"Emmily has been superb for us this season and Mia was strong to close out the fall," Adair said. "Now we need to put together our best rounds as a team and continue to see improvement from top to bottom before the conference tournament."
