The University of Houston-Victoria men's soccer team fell, 5-0, to No. 16-ranked Oklahoma City University in its season opener at The Cage on Saturday.
The Jaguars (0-1) put pressure on the Stars' backline early, having a goal disallowed due to an offsides call and maintaining possession in the attacking third during the first 15 minutes.
But Bernardo Duarte converted a penalty for Oklahoma City (2-2) in the 28th minute to open the scoring, Nate Fergeson finished a pass by Francisco Miquel in the 33rd minute to double the lead. Duarte scored again in the 44th and 63rd minutes before Miquel converted a second penalty in the 71st minute.
Senior goalkeepers Tyler Kaeppeli and Eric Thust each played a half in goal with both making two saves in their respective 45 minutes.
Yahir Pena and Rhuaraidh Menzies led the way for the Jaguars' offense with two shots each.
Saturday was the last game ever played in the UHV jerseys.
The Jaguars will play their first official game as Texas A&M University-Victoria at 1 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 5, against Nelson University.
